Biogas Production

Municipalities, industries, and project developers are going to be among the first significant adopters as India accelerates toward a circular economy solution. Organic waste streams of municipalities and agro-industries will be most interested in high-value recovery solutions for bio-CNG or upgrading their current biogas production systems. Therefore, an understanding of the steps involved in the process is crucial.

At Organic Recycling Systems (ORS), counted among the top bioenergy companies in India and a reputed waste-to-energy company in Maharashtra, we conceptualise and implement advanced anaerobic digestion technology, biomethanation technology, and MSW-to-CBG systems that ensure sustainability as well as profitability in the long run.

This blog explains the biogas production process steps with major keywords integrated, such as anaerobic digestion process, biogas production plant, biogas purification system, CBG production process and more.

What is the Biogas Production Process?

Anaerobic digestion is the scientific term biogas production process. Anaerobic digestion refers to a natural biological process wherein, in the absence of oxygen, microorganisms break down organic waste. The by-product or result contains biomethane which can further be upgraded to bio-CNG or compressed biogas (CBG).

  • This is the basic core concept for:
  • organic waste-to-biogas projects in India
  • MSW-to-energy systems
  • MSW-to-CBG plants
  • Renewable fuel from waste in India

Biogas Production Process Steps

Below is a streamlined how organic waste to biogas, which actually happens inside a modern biogas production plant.

1. Waste Collection and Segregation

The process begins with sourcing organic waste from municipalities, industries, markets or agricultural sources.

ORS supports:

  • Municipal Solid Waste Management in India
  • industrial waste recycling solutions, India
  • organic waste processing plant  in  India
  • Segregation ensures feedstock purity, which is essential for efficient biomethanation technology.

2. Pre-Processing & Feedstock Preparation

The waste undergoes:

  • Shredding
  • Slurry preparation
  • Removal of contaminants

The advanced organic waste processing systems of ORS optimise the uniformity of feedstock which further supports the efficiency parameters associated with Waste to Biogas India through anaerobic digestion.

3. Anaerobic Digestion (Core Biogas Generation Step)

Organic material is broken down in digesters by microorganisms, without oxygen. Key AD phases:

  • Hydrolysis
  • Acidogenesis
  • Acetogenesis
  • Methanogenesis
  • This step produces raw biogas + digestate.

ORS offers anaerobic digestion technology specifically designed for Indian conditions related to climate and type of waste.

4. Biogas Purification & Upgrading

This step is crucial for:

  • bio-CNG plant
  • CBG production plant
  • renewable natural gas (RNG) India
  • CBG plant projects
  • ORS executes full EPC + integration of purification technology.

5. Compression & Storage (Bio-CNG/CBG)

  • Upgraded biomethane is compressed to form CBG, which can be:
  • Bottled,
  • Stored,
  • Transported,
  • Used as transportation fuel.

This is where terms like CBG plant cost in India, CBG project consultants India, and CBG production process come into play.

6. Utilisation of By-Products

  • It also produces:
    • organic slurry
    • biofertilizer
    • high-quality manure
    • Inputs for biochar technology in India
    • circular economy waste recycling in India framework
    • benefits of biogas production in waste management

The biogas production model directly supports,

benefits of anaerobic digestion in waste management, India sustainable waste management solutions, eco-friendly waste disposal, clean energy transformation in India, waste valorisation technology.

This is a Waste-to-Wealth technology. It reduces the burden on landfills and increase India’sRenewable Energy Capacity from Waste.

ORS SUPPORT TO BUILD YOUR SUCCESSFUL BIOGAS PROJECT

  • ORS provides holistic MSW treatment and disposal solutions in India, including waste management consultancy; biogas consultancy services; project management consultancy for waste-to-energy India; EPC services for waste management India (engineering procurement and construction of a waste management plant in India); as well as DPR for waste management projects. The company also works with municipal corporations, industrial clusters/Agra-residue projects/private bioenergy developers.

What is the difference between biogas and CBG?

Biogas contains about 55-65% methane with other impurities like carbon dioxide (CO2), Hydrogen Supplied (H2S) & moisture content etc., whereas after removal of CO2 hydrogen supplied and moisture content its purity raises up to 92-98 % pure methane which has similar properties like that of natural gas or LPG so it is called as Compressed Bio Gas(CBG).

Biogas is raw gas; CBG is purified compressed biomethane meeting vehicular grade standards.

Is a biogas project profitable in India?

Yes. Because the government supports and PSUs mandate buying, and there is growing demand for fuel in addition to sustainable solutions for waste.

What is the cycle time for biogas production?

Depending on the type of waste and technology used in digesters, between 20 days to 40 days.

Does ORS provide MSW-to-CBG solutions?

Yes. ORS happens to be among the leading project developers for MSW to CBG plant and also municipal waste-based biogas projects.
